"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
The anti-encroachment drive to clear SAIL land in Burnpur continued on Tuesday, with authorities demolishing a CPI(M) office and removing an alleged illegal parking area linked to the Left party in the Rangapara area of Ward No. 98. The operation was carried out with administrative and police support as part of an ongoing eviction campaign across the industrial belt. ISP authorities stated that the drive against encroachments on company land would continue.
According to officials, seven Trinamool Congress party offices have already been demolished over the past five days during the operation. Tuesday’s action marked the first demolition of a CPI(M) office under the ongoing drive. A large police contingent was deployed in the area from the morning as bulldozers carried out the demolition of party structures and the parking facility allegedly operating on encroached SAIL land.
Former CPI(M) councillor Subodh Singh attempted to stop the demolition during the operation. Reacting to the eviction, Singh claimed that the parking structure had been constructed in 2006 with written permission and official note sheet approval from company authorities at the time, including officials identified as “Sinha Saheb” and “Raut Saheb.” He also alleged that materials, including iron angles used in the construction, had been supplied by the company itself.
The CPI(M) alleged that no eviction notice had been served before the demolition. However, SAIL authorities stated that all required notices had been issued in advance. A Trinamool woman councillor said ISP authorities had asked them to vacate their office three days earlier. She stated that if SAIL intended to carry out development work on its own land, the move should be supported and the cleared land should be used for development so that fresh encroachments do not take place again.
